Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A violent mob lynching occurred in central Kolkata on Saturday evening, leaving local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sharik Aman seriously injured. Around 6:30 PM, a group of 100-150 people attacked Aman on the streets, beating him mercilessly. During the attack, his father, brother, and a friend were also injured. The victims were quickly assisted by local residents and rushed to a nearby hospital. However, the violence continued even at the hospital, where the mob reportedly attacked them again.
Sharik Aman, who is a leader of the TMC labor union, had recently raised concerns over illegal construction and drug activities in his area. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Aman criticized local authorities, particularly Ward 43’s councillor and state lawmakers, for failing to address the issues. He also accused Mayor Firhad Hakim of ignoring the situation, despite his alleged orders to halt such activities. Aman’s outspoken stance on these matters has brought increased attention to his attack.
Aman claims that several individuals involved in the attack were relatives of the local councillor, Ayesha Kaniz, including her husband Irfan Ali Taj, his younger brother, and other family members. These claims have sparked controversy, and while Taj declined to comment on the situation due to personal health reasons, the involvement of local political figures is at the heart of ongoing accusations.
As of now, the police have yet to make any significant arrests in the case, and investigations are ongoing. The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement in handling such violent events and maintaining public safety. With no clear action taken so far, there is growing concern among local residents about the state of law and order in the city.
The attack has caused a wave of public anger, with citizens and political figures alike expressing frustration over the increasing crime rate and the apparent breakdown of law and order in West Bengal. The situation remains tense, with many waiting to see if the investigation will lead to any substantial action or if the political pressure surrounding the case will influence the outcome.
